Supervise and assist paralegal staff in the delivery of complex legal services to the Company’s litigation functional area; oversee and supervise the administrative functions related to the Company’s litigation; develop manuals and management reports; identify and implement process improvements to contribute to efficient operation of the litigation functional area.
Responsible for managing the work environment, identifying workforce needs and ensuring alignment with corporate manager expectations, values and vision.
Contribute to the company’s success through excellent customer service and meeting or exceeding performance objectives for the following major job functions:
- Manage complex litigation including class action lawsuits, bad faith litigation and large discovery project teams; provide training and guidance to paralegal staff regarding the management of assigned complex litigation matters; establish priorities and make assignments to ensure timeliness; evaluate work product for accuracy; oversee the preparation of correspondence, memoranda, release and settlement agreements and pleadings; identify, develop and implement appropriate training to ensure consistency in the composition and formatting of documents; identify and implement process improvements; investigate and make recommendations regarding technologies to improve productivity in document preparation.
- Oversee filing and auditing functions to ensure accuracy in the maintenance of documentation; develop and maintain a file management system which allows efficient access to documents; evaluate and make recommendations regarding improvements in file management, including imaging and online database.
- Responsible for selection, development, motivation, appraisal and salary recommendations of reporting subordinates. Contribute to the company’s progress in affirmative action. Ensure appropriate scheduling of staff to attorneys; balance workloads of paralegal staff and legal administrative staff and to ensure high quality work product results; coordinate work processes between paralegals and administrative staff in support of litigation management.
- Participate in, lead and/or facilitate training or special projects that identify and implement improvements in workflow, systems, procedures to ensure effective litigation operations. Coordinate team activities to ensure effective results; determine training needs for each team member to insure effective, consistent utilization of evolving systems and procedures.
Education: Associate degree in paralegal studies or similar training or work experience.
Experience: Minimum of six years demonstrated work experience as a paralegal, and two to five years progressively responsible experience in supervision, preferably in a law office environment; or the equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.
Professional certification required: Paralegal certification preferred.
