We are looking for a talented paralegal with ERISA and/or retirement plan administration experience to join the Transactions team within the Legal & Compliance Department. This person should be self-sufficient and have proven capability handling high quality, high volume delivery with minimal supervision. This person must be a quick learner with impeccable attention to detail. - Conduct legal research including statutory, regulatory, and case law, with an emphasis on ERISA and tax law.
- Assist attorneys in responding to IRS and DOL inquiries.
- Assist with document production requests, including reviewing, responding to, and tracking subpoenas.
- Assist attorneys with a variety of transactional-related projects.
- Exercise exceptional judgment and attention to detail.
- Communicate and interact professionally with persons at all levels in the organization, industry, and community.
- Associate’s Degree in Paralegal Studies or Paralegal certificate.
- At least 4 years’ work experience as a paralegal in a legal department or law office, or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Must have experience with ERISA
Skills & Knowledge: Prior experience with ERISA and tax law research required, including private letter rulings and guidance. Fundamental understanding of various qualified and non-qualified retirement plan types and how they are created and maintained. Prior experience responding to DOL or IRS inquiries or requests is a plus. Ability to analyze facts and identify relevant legal issues; communicate clearly and concisely in written and oral communication; and analyze documents and files in support of transactional management and special projects. Works on a wide range of complex assignments, often defining procedures on how to complete project work when assigned in the form of objectives. Contributes to creation of recommendations for solutions and new procedures. Self-motivated and detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and complete tasks within tight deadlines. Must be comfortable exercising independent judgment in completing tasks.
