Position Summary\:
Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) is a global BioPharma company firmly focused on its mission to discover, develop and deliver innovative medicines to patients with serious diseases.  The IT organization at BMS is accountable for all digital investments for the company as part of its accountability. The Enterprise Architecture team is formed with the focus on Simplifying our architecture, Integrate disparate processes and Focus our digital investments on highest value opportunities.  Current portfolio of requests for this team includes the recommendation of a Content Management Platform, Cloud Development Architecture, and selection of an Enterprise Risk Management solution.
The EA Stewardship and Solutions role, reporting to the Head of Enterprise Architecture is charged with the creation and maintenance of IT Enterprise Architecture for BMS in partnership with several stakeholders who contribute to the Architecture.  The role will be 70% orchestration leveraging a virtual team to get the work done with 30% hands-on component in developing frameworks and architectures.  The goal is to provide maximum value from our investments in digital and technology capabilities.
Key Responsibilities\: 
Ensure that the respective business, application, data and technology perspectives are in line with the organization’s technology and governance strategies, policies and standards.
Create, Collect, Curate and Synthesize internal, external and leading architecture principles and trends to provide best value for BMS.
Help create the “constitution” on Architecture practices balancing BMS needs, external trends and partner capabilities.
Provide a technology, organization and vendor agnostic solutions to solve core Business problems for innovation, competitive advantage and/or efficient operations. 

Detailed Responsibilities\:
Interpret, use and apply information contained within IT architecture to inform a range of business improvement activities, particularly those involved in the design, development, enhancement and maintenance of IT support systems.
Help create the “to be” architecture and execute plans to move current architecture to the desired architecture.
Ensure that the overall architecture is maintained in a coherent manner and that appropriate considerations are made for its security and quality.
Active member of the EA dedicated team involved in all EA activities such as Architecture Review Boards, Working Team meetings, Capability and Trend research and Solution Design.
Develop the framework to develop architecture guidelines, principles and artifacts (e.g., blue prints, technology roadmaps, etc.)
Work with Solution Architects, Domain Architects, and Business Partners to understand outcomes and help design the optimal solution architecture
Facilitate small to medium sized working sessions to assess architecture alternatives. Document decisions and follow up tasks for completion
Research key trends in architecture and business models and communicate them to key stakeholders
Develop a strong internal and external network of architects and thought leaders to bring the best ideas to solve Business problems.
Develop processes for IT community to communicate, share and collaborate using a common EA Platform.
Develop and implement innovative methods to document, share and engage broader IT and Business community so that the Architecture Guidelines are evolving, stays aligned with external trends and internal needs.
Identify patterns of use across domains and capabilities and suggest ways to streamline and improve digital capabilities


Must have requirements\:

  • Ability to lead a large network of resources across multiples levels of the organization using a common purpose and operating model. Should have a strong personal brand to attract talent from multiple teams and organizations
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment balancing strategic and tactical needs
  • Ability to solve ambiguous problems in new domain areas with limited training and knowledge
  • Advanced Degree in Engineering, Computer Science
  • Strong understanding of domain areas such as R&D, Commercial, Manufacturing and Business Operations.  Experience in at least two domain areas are required.
  • Deep understanding of architectures such as Data, Information, Cloud, Security etc., and Top priorities for BMS are Data and Cloud.
  • 10 to 15 years’ experience in software development, product design, IT and Business Operations across multiple industries.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience  as an Enterprise Architect or Domain Architect for a global organization with complex technology needs
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work with technical team members, middle level and senior management.
  • Excellent knowledge of 21st century communication and collaboration platforms with the abilities to leverage them for effective virtual team work
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and projects at the same time with changing priorities based on business needs.
  • Ability to offer training courses for 10 to 40 employees, coach a large network and answer specific architecture questions for the entire organization.
  • Deep knowledge of IT methodologies such as SDLC and Agile techniques.

Ideal Candidates Would Also Have\:   

  • Strong understanding of architecture methodologies such as TOGAF, Zachman and the ability to apply them in a non-dogmatic manner.  The implementation of standards should be value driven and not take a life of its own.
  • Proven track record to learn new problems, research alternatives and provide interim as well as long term solutions.
  • Healthcare industry is desirable, but not required. Experience in industries with higher maturity in Architecture practices is highly desirable.
  • Strong Emotional Intelligence to adjust communication styles based on projects needs and an Empathy based interaction style.
