This position is with RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company—the second-largest U.S. tobacco company. The company's brands include Newport, Camel and Pall Mall.

The Systems Scientist is responsible for implementation of automation tools and systems changes to meet new process implementation timelines, enhance reporting accuracy, increase productivity and improve information consistency. In addition, he/she must be able to evaluate system changes for impacts to interfaced systems and be capable of troubleshooting system issues. The individual must possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish collaborative relationships while acting as a liaison between information management and business stakeholders. He/she must be capable of grasping technical information, systems, and business processes quickly, managing multiple projects simultaneously with extreme attention to detail.


Principle Duties and Responsibilities include:

Computer Systems – Develop thorough understanding of manufacturing specifications and relevant product data in corporate computer systems including, but not limited to, direct materials, packaging, assemblies, and finished goods. Drive development of systems capabilities for new/revised product/material types and business processes to support commercialization.

Regulatory Compliance – Ensuring internal business process and regulatory compliance requirements are achieved in the implementation of new products and maintenance of existing products. Identify process improvements to ensure appropriate data/information is provided for regulatory reporting processes in the most efficient and accurate manner. In addition, ensure that tools are in place to support audit inspection readiness.

Cross Functional Collaboration – Collaborating cross functionally with various groups to ensure data is accurate, complete and approved.


Position Qualification:

Required Knowledge and Experience

Four year degree required - preferred disciplines in mathematics, science, information technology, or other technical discipline, including course load equivalent, plus a minimum of 5 years of experience.

Candidates not meeting the above degree requirements will be considered if they have 7 years of experience with an organization that manufactures finished goods for sale in a position with above applicable duties and responsibilities. Work experience in information preparation for submissions to regulatory bodies is preferred.

Demonstrates the ability to master the use of new software applications quickly

o            Detailed working knowledge of SAP and Siemens Interspec software preferred

o            Highly skilled in the use of Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, and Outlook)


The Ideal Candidate will possess:

Demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Demonstrates a thorough understanding of manufacturing processes and practices associated with the production of finished goods for sale

Knowledge related to maintenance of computer systems validation and business process data verifications

Ability to assess the need for change, plan for change and implement change as necessary

Experience with data extraction, verification and summarization utilizing systems such as Business Objects and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)

Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and within project time fences, while adapting to changing priorities

Demonstrates strong organizational skills with attention to detail

Demonstrates interpersonal skills of dependability, reliability, and credibility

Demonstrates the ability to work seamlessly in a team environment and independently in area of expertise

Demonstrates the ability to interpret software user business requirements into clear software functionality requirements to achieve desired outcomes.

Demonstrates strong technical writing skills and effective oral communication skills
